Inventory

The Inventory object is the central record that represents the current stock availability of a Product and its associated Stock Item at a specific Warehouse and Inventory Location. It provides a real-time view of inventory quantities, stock value, storage location, inventory status, and inventory movement.

Inventory records are automatically updated through business processes such as Goods Receipt, Inventory Allocation, Sales Orders, Manufacturing, Inventory Adjustments, Returns, and Inventory Transactions. It serves as the primary source for monitoring stock availability, maintaining inventory accuracy, and supporting warehouse operations.

The Inventory object also tracks stock valuation, quantity movements, weighted average cost, reorder levels, and stock status, enabling organizations to make informed inventory planning and replenishment decisions.

Scenario: Managing Inventory for Maruti Dzire

ABC Automotive Pvt. Ltd. purchases 100 Maruti Dzire vehicles from ABC Manufacturing. After the vehicles are received through a Goods Receipt, they are stored in the Central Warehouse at Rack-A01.

The Inventory record is automatically created with the following details:

  • Product: Sedan Car
  • Stock Item: Maruti Dzire

  • Goods Receipt automatically creates or updates the Inventory record.
