Inventory Location

The Inventory Location object represents a specific storage area within a Warehouse where Products and Stock Items are physically stored. Inventory Locations organize warehouse space into logical storage units such as Bins, Racks, Shelves, Zones, Bulk Areas, Quarantine Areas, Staging Areas, and Dispatch Areas.

Each Inventory Location belongs to a Warehouse and is responsible for managing storage capacity, inventory allocation, and stock availability. It tracks dimensions, weight and volume capacity, utilization percentages, allocation priority, and storage status to ensure inventory is stored efficiently.

Inventory Locations are extensively used during Goods Receipt, Inventory Allocation, Inventory Transactions, Order Fulfillment, and Outbound Shipments, providing complete visibility of where inventory is stored within the warehouse.

ABC Automotive Pvt. Ltd. receives 100 Maruti Dzire vehicles into its Central Warehouse. To organize inventory efficiently, the warehouse team creates an Inventory Location for vehicle storage.

The Inventory Location is configured with the following details:

  • Warehouse: Central Warehouse

  • Goods Receipt Lines allocate received inventory to the Inventory Location.
  • Inventory quantities are updated automatically.
  • Occupied Volume and Occupied Weight increase as inventory is stored.
  • Available Volume and Available Weight are recalculated automatically.
  • Volume and Weight Utilization percentages are updated in real time.
  • Status Alerts are generated when configured thresholds are exceeded.
