Inventory Location Creation Steps
Follow the steps below to create an Inventory Location in Cloudy Inventory.
Step 1: Navigate to Warehouse
Open the Warehouses tab and select the required Warehouse record.
Step 2: Open Warehouse Management
Click Warehouse Management to create and manage Inventory Locations for the selected Warehouse.
Step 3: Enter Inventory Location Information
Provide the required details:
- Inventory Location Name
- Warehouse (Automatically populated based on the selected Warehouse)
- Type
- Active
- Location Code
- Allocation Capacity Type
- Allocation Logic
- Allocation Priority
Step 4: Configure Capacity Details
Enter the storage capacity information:
- Length
- Width
- Height
- Dimension Unit
- Weight Capacity
- Weight Unit
- Volume Threshold (%)
- Weight Threshold (%)
Step 5: Save the Inventory Location
Click Save to create the Inventory Location.
Best Practices
- Create Inventory Locations based on your warehouse layout (Bins, Racks, Shelves, etc.).
- Configure Allocation Priority to ensure automatic allocation selects the most appropriate storage location.
- Choose the correct Allocation Capacity Type (Volume, Weight, or Both) based on the products being stored.
- Set realistic Volume and Weight Thresholds to receive proactive capacity alerts.
- Regularly monitor Volume Utilization (%) and Weight Utilization (%) to optimize warehouse usage.
- Assign unique Location Codes for quick identification during receiving, picking, and stock transfers.
- Keep Inventory Locations Active only while they are available for operational use.
- Review storage utilization reports periodically to balance inventory across warehouse locations.
- Use dedicated Quarantine, Staging, and Dispatch locations to streamline warehouse workflows.
- Ensure Goods Receipt Lines and Inventory Allocations always reference the correct Inventory Location to maintain accurate inventory traceability.
