
Bill of Material Creation Steps
Step 1: Navigate to the Product
Open the Products tab and select the required Product (e.g., Sedan Car).
Navigate to the BOM related list and click New.
Step 2: Enter Bill of Material Information
Provide the required details:
- Bill of Material Name
- Finished Product (Automatically populated from the selected Product)
- Legal Entity
- Type
- Status
- Quantity
- Effective From
- Effective To
- Yield Percentage
- Scrap Percentage
- Parent Bill of Material (Optional)
- Finished Stock Item
- Revision
- Notes
- Warehouse (Optional, if applicable)
Step 3: Save the Bill of Material
Click Save to create the Bill of Material record
Step 4: Add BOM Lines
After the Bill of Material is created, add one or more BOM Line records to define the required manufacturing components, including:
- Product
- Stock Item
- Required Quantity
- UOM
- Issue Method
- Scrap Percentage
- Sequence Number
Step 5: Create a Production Batch
Once the Bill of Material is Active and all BOM Lines are configured, create a Production Batch to begin the manufacturing process.
Best Practices
- Create the Bill of Material before starting any manufacturing activity.
- Keep only approved BOMs in Active status for production use.
- Maintain Revision history for every engineering or product design change.
- Configure accurate Yield Percentage and Scrap Percentage for better production planning.
- Define all required components through BOM Lines with correct quantities and UOM.
- Use Effective From and Effective To dates to control BOM validity.
- Associate the BOM with the correct Warehouse and Legal Entity.
- Review BOMs regularly to ensure manufacturing standards remain up to date.
- Create Production Batches only from the latest active BOM revision.
- Archive obsolete BOMs to maintain a clean and controlled manufacturing environment.
